Govats
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Govats ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects
your personal data when you use the Govats mobile app (Android package name
com.govats.app) and the services connected to it.
Govats helps us run devotional events. Devotees use the app to see events, register interest, view their QR identity card and meal coupons, and watch live streams. Volunteers use the app to scan meal coupons at the meal counter. Our office staff use a separate web dashboard to manage events, meals, devotees, and volunteers.
By using the app, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Data we collect
1.1 Data you give us when you create an account
- Your full name.
- Your email address or phone number. You use it to sign in.
- Your password. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of your password. We cannot read your password.
1.2 Data our event office adds to your profile
Our office staff may create a devotee or volunteer profile for you. They use details you give them, for example on an event registration form. Your profile may be linked to your app account, so you can see it in the app. A profile can include:
- Name, phone number, alternate phone number, and email address.
- Postal address (street, city, state, country, PIN code).
- Age and gender.
- Membership ID or volunteer ID, and your QR identity card number.
- Family members who come with you: their names, ages, relation to you, and meal needs.
- An emergency contact: name, phone number, and relation.
- Meal needs for each event day.
- For volunteers only: skills, availability, hours of service, and a profile photo if the office adds one.
- Notes that office staff add to help run events.
1.3 Data created when you use the app
- The events you register interest in.
- Your event registrations: name, email, phone number, number of attendees, family members, and any note you add.
- Your meal coupons: meal type, date, serving time, and whether and when each coupon was used.
- Scan records: when a volunteer scans a coupon or QR card, we record which volunteer scanned it, for which event, the time, and whether the scan passed or failed (with the reason).
- The time you last signed in.
1.4 Camera
The app asks for camera permission only for volunteers, so they can scan meal coupon QR codes. The app reads the code on your device. We do not save, upload, or share any photo or video. Only the code number is sent to our server to check the coupon. You can refuse camera permission and type the code by hand instead. The app does not use the microphone.
1.5 Data stored on your device
- A sign-in token, kept in your phone's secure storage, so you stay signed in. The app removes it when you log out or delete your account.
- A temporary copy of event and meal information, so the app loads quickly and works with a weak connection.
All of this is removed when you uninstall the app.
1.6 Data we do not collect
- We do not collect your location.
- We do not read your contacts, photos, files, or messages.
- We do not show ads, and we do not use your advertising ID.
- We do not use analytics or tracking tools in the app.
- We do not collect payment or card details.
2. How we use your data
We use your data only to run Govats and our events:
- To create your account, sign you in, and keep your account secure.
- To send you emails that the service needs, such as email verification and password reset emails.
- To show you events, record your interest, and manage event registrations.
- To show your QR identity card, issue meal coupons, and check each coupon at the meal counter (each coupon works only once).
- To count attendees and meals, so we can plan how much food to cook.
- To contact you or your emergency contact about an event, if needed.
- To find and stop misuse, such as fake sign-ups or repeated failed sign-in attempts.
- To follow the law.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use it for advertising.
3. How we share your data
We share your data only in these cases:
- Our office staff. Staff with admin access can see and manage devotee, volunteer, event, meal, and coupon data to run events.
- Volunteers at events. When a volunteer scans your coupon or opens your registration, they can see the details they need to check it: your name, contact details, and your registration and meal details.
- Service providers. We use trusted companies to run the service: cloud hosting for our servers (Vercel), a cloud database to store data, and an email delivery service to send verification and password reset emails. They process your data only to provide their service to us.
- Legal reasons. We may share data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, staff, or the public.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data with anyone.
4. Live streams and other services
Live streams in the app are hosted on outside platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or Zoom. When you watch a stream in the app or open a stream link, that platform may collect data about you under its own privacy policy. We do not control these platforms. Please read their privacy policies.
5. How we protect your data
- All data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
- Passwords are stored only in hashed form.
- Sign-in tokens expire after 7 days.
- Only staff with admin access can open the office dashboard.
- We limit repeated sign-in and password reset attempts.
No system is 100% secure. If you think your account is at risk, change your password and contact us.
6. How long we keep your data
- Account data (name, email or phone, password): as long as your account exists.
- Profile, event, registration, coupon, and scan records: as long as our event office needs them for event, attendance, and meal-planning records. You can ask us to delete them at any time (see section 7).
- We may keep some data longer if the law requires it.
7. Delete your account and data
Delete your account in the app:
- Open the Govats app and sign in.
- Go to the Profile tab.
- Tap Delete account.
- Enter your password and confirm.
Without the app: email us at harinamseva@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my Govats account". Full steps are on our account deletion page.
What we delete at once when you delete your account in the app:
- Your sign-in account: name, email or phone number, and password.
- Your event interest records.
What we keep, and why:
- Your devotee or volunteer profile, event registrations, meal coupons, and scan records are event records of our office. We unlink them from your deleted account and keep them as described in section 6.
- To delete these records too, email us. We will delete them within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep them.
8. Your rights and choices
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy.
- Correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete your data.
- Stop using your data. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under data protection laws, such as India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. To use any of these rights, or to make a complaint, email us at harinamseva@gmail.com. We may ask you to confirm that you own the account. We aim to reply within 30 days.
9. Children
Govats is meant for people aged 18 and older. If you are under 18, do not create an account. A parent or guardian may give us the names and ages of family members, including children, so we can plan event places and meals. The parent or guardian confirms that they have the right to share these details. If you think a child has given us personal data without a parent's consent, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are important, we will also tell you in the app or by email.
